Every course can use the structure that matches its curriculum. One subject may use Units and Weeks while another uses simple Lessons or Days.

Add one item at a time

Open a course and choose Open Outline. If the outline already has items, choose Add to open a dialog, select where the item belongs (the course root or an existing group), and choose Single item. Add a Unit, Week, Lesson, Day, custom group, or custom learning item. The Add inside action beside a group preselects that group.

Generate many items

  1. Choose a format.

For an empty outline, choose Build from a format. To extend an existing outline, choose Add to open the dialog, select the destination group or course root, then choose Multiple items. Select Lessons, Days, Units with Lessons, Weeks with Lessons, or Units with Weeks and Lessons.

  2. Choose numbering and counts.

The live structure preview shows the first two groups at each level with every lesson in those groups, using the selected numbering style. It also shows the total number of groups and learning items. Set how many of each you need. Start numbering at sets the first Unit, Week, Lesson, or Day number; when appending, it defaults to the next item of that kind in the selected location. Five lessons per week can optionally add Monday–Friday labels.

  3. Choose how lesson numbers progress.

In formats that group lessons under Units, Weeks, or both, lessons restart at 1 in each group by default. Check Number lessons continuously to keep one sequence across those groups—for example, Lessons 1–5 in Week 1 and Lessons 6–10 in Week 2. Set First lesson number even when continuous numbering is off: each group starts there (default 1). When continuous numbering is on, the sequence starts there; an appended batch defaults to the next lesson number in the course. This differs from Start numbering at, which controls the first top-level group number. A simple Lessons outline is already sequential and uses Start numbering at for its first lesson, even when the outline is new. If Monday–Friday labels are also selected, the weekday appears after each numbered lesson.

  4. Optional: name every learning item.

Enter a repeating learning-item label, such as Assignment or Reading, to change each generated display label. Unit and Week group names stay the same.

  5. Review the full batch.

Choose Preview outline to edit any label or title or remove items you do not need. Nothing is saved yet, and existing items are not changed.

  6. Add the items.

Confirm only when the structure and numbering look right. New items are added after existing items in the selected location.

You can later move items up or down or place them inside a different group without changing the learner’s progress for that lesson.

Remove an outline item

Choose Edit beside an outline item, then choose Remove item and review the confirmation. Removing a learning item deletes it for every learner in the course, including its scheduled card, progress, review history, and lesson grade. Removing a group also removes every item nested inside it. This cannot be undone.
